Larry Korman

President
AKA Hotel Residences

Larry Korman is President of AKA Hotels and Hotel Residences and Co-CEO of Korman Communities, a ffifth-generation residential real estate company.

After graduating from Duke University in 1986, Larry joined the family business full-time and used his studies to maximize the efficiency of the operations by branding the firm’s garden-style apartment communities into KormanSuites, taking his father’s concept of a furnished apartment to the next level. KormanSuites, the nation’s first branded portfolio of furnished apartment properties, became the leader for temporary corporate housing and began to gain recognition from the nation’s top corporations.

By 2004, recognizing a need for luxury flexible-stay residences with hotel services, Korman made the decision to expand in a new direction. With Korman Communities (now) as the parent company, Larry Korman created a new collection, AKA, in order to acquire, transform and reposition exclusive high-rise, extended-stay properties in key urban markets, currently with locations in New York City, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Washington DC, and London. (stayaka.com).

Under Korman’s leadership, AKA has achieved the thoughtful balance between the style and hospitality of an intimate hotel, and the space and comfort of a fully appointed luxury condominium. Along with residences designed by today’s leading architects and interior designers, AKA also features award-winning restaurants, cafes, lounges, bars, wellness centers, business facilities, screening cinemas, and innovative experiential programs.

In 2021, Korman partnered with Electra America to create Electra America Hospitality Group on a joint venture to acquire and convert hotels and create the World’s Most Livable Hotels® under the AKA brand. Since then, under Korman’s guidance, AKA has experienced remarkable growth and expansion, particularly over the last three years. Notably, AKA has diversified its portfolio by introducing luxury hotels, opening seven hotel properties within this timeframe, and solidifying AKA’s reputation as the purveyor of “The World’s Most Livable Hotels”, across major metropolitan cities including Boston, New York City, Miami, West Palm, Alexandria, and D.C. The company-wide ethos of dedication to the resident and guest experience flows directly from the Korman tradition of pride and commitment to long-term excellence and is demonstrated across both extended-stay properties and traditional hotels.

Raised in renowned architect Louis Kahn’s last residential commission in Fort Washington, PA, Larry grew to understand the importance and impact of great design and learned the value of living in a global community. Larry now resides in the Kahn home with his wife Korin, founder of body+beauty labs. They have three children (kahnkormanhouse.com). Larry is on the board of Jefferson Hospital and the Jefferson University for Neurosurgery and Immunotherapy and is also the Chair of the Board of Philadelphia’s Film Society and Film Festival (phillyfilm.com). He is also on the Corporate Council, Buildings Board and Co-Chair of Networking at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
