Donte Johnson is a hospitality executive, author, and thought leader known for integrating cultural relevance, programming, operational excellence, and social impact into lifestyle hotel performance. A native Washingtonian, he began his career with Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants in 2001 and became the youngest general manager in the company’s history in 2008.
Johnson has since led lifestyle hotel assets across major markets including Miami, Baltimore, and Atlanta, most recently serving as General Manager of Thompson Atlanta–Buckhead. He currently serves as Area General Manager with Donohoe Hospitality Services, providing executive oversight and operational support with a focus on commercial strategy, operations, talent development, and owner relations.
He is the author of The Impact Hospitality Handbook, a forthcoming guide for hospitality leaders seeking to align profitability with purpose and community engagement. Johnson has served on Hyatt’s Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council and Supplier Diversity Committee and is widely recognized for pioneering impact-driven hotel operations.
His leadership has been featured in The Washington Post, USA Today, Travel + Leisure, Hotel Management, CoStar, and on CNN. Johnson is a graduate of Saint Peter’s University and McKinsey & Company’s Black Executive Leadership Program.
