John Flannigan has 20 years of experience acquiring, opening, repositioning and operating hotels in major markets including Los Angeles, New York City, Nashville, Palm Springs, San Francisco, San Jose and Santa Barbara. John always knew he wanted to be a hotelier, and upon graduating with a degree in hotel management from Penn State University he began working for Wyndham Hotels and relocated to California. There, John quickly worked his way up in the ranks to hotel manager, learning the business and all operational aspects along the way. Four years later, Henry Kallan offered John the opportunity to be a general manager and open one of the first luxury boutique hotels in Manhattan, the Hotel Giraffe – located on Park Avenue. Three years later, John went on to open a new boutique asset, Hotel Roger Williams, for JRK Hotels. In the four years he was the general manager of the hotel Roger Williams, John more than doubled revenues. When ACE Hotels sought out John for his expertise in downtown NY market, particularly his skills in opening and developing properties, he opted to leave Hotel Roger Williams and spearhead the launch of their new brand. Newly a year later, in 2008, JRK Hotels offer John the opportunity to return as President of the Hotel Division where he would be responsible for a portfolio six properties with a combined annual revenue of 105MM and over 500 employees. While at JRK, the division acquired two hotels, sold hotels and started a management platform for a republic REIT. In mid-2014 John joined Proper Hotels as Chief Operating Officer. As COO, John led the development of a new luxury hotel lifestyle brand including the take over, rebranding and management of Avalon Beverly Hills and Avalon Palm Springs. John played a key role in the underwriting and acquisition of Proper’s new developments in San Francisco, Austin, Downtown Los Angeles, and Santa Monica. John resides in Manhattan Beach with his wife and two sons.
