Amy Gill, the daughter of a custom home builder with three decades of rehabilitation experience under her belt, is no stranger to the construction business.
She has served as full partner and hands-on manager for every development project undertaken with husband Amrit since 1990, when they tackled their first renovation project. In 2001, the pair founded Restoration St. Louis, a development company specializing in the acquisition and rehabilitation of architecturally significant residential and commercial properties, with a specific emphasis on creating neighborhoods. Amy has received numerous awards including St. Louis Women of the Year, The Women of Influence Award, and the St. Louis Business Journal’s Most Influential Business Leader Award.
Today, the two employ over 450 team members with the Gill Companies. Amy also owns and manages Checkmate Design an architectural and interiors company that specializes in historic rehabilitation. She also has interest with her husband in other subsidiary companies to RSL- A&A Contracting, Front Door St. Louis, Front Door Iowa, and Stone Masters, as well as LLCs Innkeepers Hospitality- and Restaurant Services—and has completed over $400 million in renovations on approximately 400 properties.
As the frontwoman of Checkmate Design LLC, her own certified Woman Owned Enterprise, Amy personally manages construction personnel and supervises design details for projects ranging from $80,000 residential rehabs to multi-million hotel restorations, working closely with architects and contractors to revitalize historic buildings with exciting new uses as loft apartments and restaurants, bowling alleys and movie theaters, in addition to luxury hotels.
Amy served as lead designer for two of the most recent additions to Marriott’s Autograph Collection; she headed the $50 million development of the Hotel Blackhawk, the only 4 star hotel- rated number one in Iowa, and the recently opened The Current Iowa, housed in the Daniel Burnham-designed Putnam Building. Amy is in the final planning stages of designing a $65 million renovation of the historic Union Trust Building in St. Louis, which was designed by Louis Sullivan and worked on by Frank Lloyd Wright. Hotel Saint Louis will open in fall of 2018.
