Jay Patel is the founder of Wintergreen Hospitality, a privately owned hotel investment, development, and management business. He’s responsible for the overall operations of the company, with a particular emphasis on people and culture, talent management, business strategy and relationships.
While cultivating a traditional competency in hard branded franchised hotels, Wintergreen Hospitality was an early adopter of the soft brand platform in 2014 with their development of the 4th ever hotel to launch with Hilton’s Curio Collection. Award winning performance in guest experience and market share earned Jay an invitation to serve on the Owner Advisory Council for Curio Collection by Hilton and the Full Service Operations Committee for Hilton Hotels.
A 10-year journey of studying the independent lodging space through trial by fire led to a record-breaking exit in 2019. Now, Jay and two co-founders are attempting to launch a new independent hotel concept in Charlotte, NC by digging deep into their learnings.
Before starting Wintergreen Hospitality and prior to graduate school, he worked for Marriott in their management training program at the Marriott Marquis in New York.
Jay earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Kenan-Flagler Business school at UNC Chapel Hill, where he is a regular guest speaker in topics of real estate, entrepreneurship, and organizational culture/leadership. Jay also completed a Master of Management degree from the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration.
