A native New Yorker, Everett Abitbol landed in Philly after a summer spent working on the Rendell gubernatorial campaign. With a background in transportation, Everett founded a fleet of taxicabs in Philadelphia that grew to the largest privately held taxi company in the US, over 4,000 vehicles and 20,000 drivers in NY, Chicago, New Orleans and Philadelphia. They were among the first fleets to “go green” with a hybrid fleet of taxicabs in each city along with the first Wheelchair Accessible taxi programs in Philadelphia and New York.
It was a wedding in 2018 that spurred the idea for The Deacon and in April 2019 its doors opened. A community focused event space and boutique hotel in the former first African Baptist Church. This adaptive reuse project has a hospitality, residential and commercial component and has been nominated for the 2020 Preservation Achievement Award.
Everett and his wife reside in Philadelphia with their two children Noah and Phoebe.
