BEST INDEPENDENT HOTEL

The Ranch Malibu

The Ranch Malibu

When The Ranch Malibu was founded in September 2010, the wellness industry, particularly in travel, was not nearly as prominent or profitable as it is today. At that time, Founders Alex and Sue Glasscock sought to create a luxurious destination for guests to reconnect to nature, get off the grid and leave with lasting results through a weeklong fitness and wellness program. Other areas of innovation can be seen through The Ranch’s exclusively plant-based diet which was in place upon opening and the company has consistently showed a commitment to sustainable practices in every aspect of operations.

ICON OF CULTURE

Hotel Figueroa

Hotel Figueroa

The hotel was the largest commercial building funded by women for women when it opened in 1926 as a safe haven for solo female travelers who were prohibited from checking into most hotels without a male chaperone. Hotel Figueroa gave women the freedom to live uninhibited lives among other like-minded women, and this paradise of feminine energy attracted professional women from all over the world, turning the coffee shop and salons into diverse and intellectual women’s collectives that produced powerful art and activism alike. The hotel fully embraced its social conscience, holding press conferences and political rallies against sexism, racism, and other social issues. Within the walls of the Hotel Figueroa, progress was possible.

Mama Shelter

Mama Shelter

Its establishments are atypical places, where everyone feels at home. They are the result of a blend of influences, encounters, liberties, sensations and emotions. Each Mama tells the story of the city it is located in and the brand combines all kinds of influences: the authentic and rebellious atmosphere of Paris’ Saint Blaise district, the Mediterranean colors of Marseille, Lyon’s obsession with gastronomy, Bordeaux’s similar obsession with wine, Los Angeles' magic, Rio de Janeiro’s rhythm, Belgrade's energy, the magic of Prague and Toulouse's easy-living.
